Model United Nations, or MUN for short, is an educational program open to students who are seeking to gain a global perspective.

Several of the world’s most prestigious universities, including Yonsei, have acknowledged Model United Nations to be effective in teaching eager young minds about the era of interconnectedness that globalization has ushered into the world.

 

Yonsei University's MUN program offers the best educational environment in South Korea in fostering young students' global perspectives. YDMUN, the organization behind YMUN, annually competes in international Model United Nations conferences, and its members are eager to share their experiences with the bright young minds of the future. Not only is YMUN an opportunity to educate students who wish to partake in future global affairs, but it is also a chance for them to meet fellow students who share similar dreams. ​

 

So how does this all work? First, each participant is assigned one of the 190 member nations of the UN. The participant will act as a diplomat representing his or her given country. Afterwards, the participant will be assigned to a committee of their choice (e.g. General Assembly, Security Council, etc.) along with multiple other students, and will be required to come up with a resolution about a specific agenda. Subsequently, students will debate on the resolution at hand with the aim of either passing or rejecting it.

 

The Model United Nations experience is a simulation of actual UN conferences, and therefore, every student, regardless of his or her original nationality, must uphold the stance of the nation he or she is representing.
