Founded in 2004, the Yonsei Delegation for Model United Nations (YDMUN) is a student-led organization under the Leadership Center of the Institute for Global Engagement & Empowerment (IGEE) at Yonsei University. YDMUN aims to deepen understanding of international organizations and global affairs, cultivate the skills required for future leadership, and build meaningful networks across borders.

YDMUN is the only Korean representative team officially recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate in international Model United Nations conferences. Since 2005, YDMUN has proudly participated in the National Model United Nations Conference (NMUN) held in New York, representing Korea on the international stage. Over the years, the delegation has consistently demonstrated strong research, diplomatic, negotiation, and collaborative capabilities, earning numerous distinctions. In 2026, YDMUN continued this tradition by receiving an Honourable Mention at NMUN 2026, once again gaining official recognition among delegations from around the world.

Since 2008, YDMUN has hosted Yonsei Model United Nations (YMUN), one of Korea’s largest university-run MUN conferences. Building on its experience at NMUN, YMUN provides young students with a space to engage critically with international issues and to experience diplomacy through research, debate, negotiation, and cooperation. In addition, YDMUN has organized the YONSEI X SEODAEMUN MUN Vision Workshop in partnership with Seodaemun-gu for four consecutive years, introducing local youth to international challenges, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the process of reaching collective solutions through discussion and negotiation.

Model United Nations is often described as a simulation, but we believe its meaning reaches far beyond imitation. Delegates are asked to step beyond their own personal views, understand the interests of the countries they represent, confront disagreement, and continue negotiating until a more responsible direction can be found. The process involves conflict, compromise, reconsideration, and the difficult choice to cooperate even when complete agreement seems impossible. Ultimately, those efforts are made with the hope that each decision, however small, may contribute to a future in which the lives sharing this world can move forward in a better direction. In that sense, diplomacy is not only about reaching consensus, but about continuing to navigate uncertainty with care, responsibility, and the willingness to listen to voices beyond one’s own.

YMUN strives each year to become a space where such choices can be explored meaningfully. Here, students gather with different perspectives, national interests, and voices. Through dialogue, those voices are challenged, reshaped, and added to one another. Ideas that begin individually are given breath through exchange, and gradually grow into something that can move beyond a single perspective.

​

What remains after a conference is therefore not only greater knowledge or a completed resolution. It is also the people with whom those hours were shared—the delegates across the table, the partners in negotiation, and the voices that once disagreed but eventually found a way forward together. The connections formed here may continue long after the final session ends, reaching places none of us can yet anticipate.

We hope YMUN 2027 will become a place where each participant gives breath to their own ideas, listens deeply to others, and learns to navigate a world that is never shaped by one voice alone. When those voices are brought together, they may become more than the sum of their parts: a breath that gives life to what comes next.

2004년 발족한 연세대학교 모의유엔총회 대표단(YDMUN)은 연세대학교 글로벌사회공헌원(IGEE) 리더십센터 산하의 학생자치기구입니다. YDMUN은 국제기구와 국제사회에 대한 이해를 높이고, 향후 세계 무대에서 활동할 수 있는 역량을 함양하며, 국경을 넘어선 의미 있는 네트워크를 구축하고자 설립되었습니다.

YDMUN은 외교부가 공식적으로 인정한 국제 모의유엔총회 참가 자격을 가진 유일한 한국 대표단으로서, 2005년부터 뉴욕에서 개최되는 National Model United Nations Conference(NMUN)에 대한민국을 대표하여 참가해 왔습니다. 오랜 기간 국제 무대에서 높은 수준의 리서치, 외교, 협상, 협력 역량을 꾸준히 보여주며 다수의 수상 성과를 이어왔고, 2026년에는 NMUN 2026에서 Honourable Mention을 수상하며 세계 각국의 대표단 가운데 다시 한번 공식적인 우수 성과를 인정받았습니다.

2008년부터는 NMUN의 경험을 바탕으로 국내 최대 규모의 대학 주관 모의유엔총회 중 하나인 Yonsei Model United Nations(YMUN)을 개최하고 있습니다. YMUN은 청소년들이 국제사회의 현안을 비판적으로 바라보고, 리서치와 토론, 협상과 협력을 통해 외교의 과정을 직접 경험할 수 있도록 마련된 자리입니다. 또한 YDMUN은 서대문구와 함께 YONSEI X SEODAEMUN 모의유엔 비전 워크숍을 4년 연속 주관하며, 지역 청소년들에게 국제 이슈와 지속가능발전목표(SDGs), 그리고 토론과 협상을 통해 공동의 해결책을 만들어가는 과정을 소개해 왔습니다.

​

모의유엔은 흔히 국제사회를 재현하는 하나의 시뮬레이션으로 설명됩니다. 그러나 저희는 그 의미가 단순한 재현에 머무르지 않는다고 생각합니다. 참가자들은 자신의 개인적인 생각을 넘어 자신이 맡은 국가의 이해관계를 이해해야 하고, 서로 다른 입장과 마주하며, 완전한 합의가 어려운 상황에서도 더 책임 있는 방향을 찾기 위해 끊임없이 협상해야 합니다. 그 과정에는 갈등과 타협, 재고와 수정, 그리고 끝내 협력을 선택하는 어려움이 함께 존재합니다. 결국 이러한 모든 과정은 이 세상을 함께 살아가는 수많은 생명이 조금이라도 더 나은 미래를 살아갈 수 있도록, 매 순간 더 나은 선택을 찾아가기 위한 노력이라고 생각합니다. 그런 의미에서 외교는 단순히 합의에 도달하는 일이 아니라, 불확실한 상황 속에서도 서로의 목소리를 듣고, 책임감을 가지고, 더 나은 방향을 계속 찾아 나가는 과정에 가깝습니다.

​

YMUN은 매년 그러한 고민과 선택이 의미 있게 이루어질 수 있는 장이 되고자 합니다. 이곳에는 서로 다른 국가의 이해관계와 관점, 그리고 각자의 목소리를 가진 학생들이 모입니다. 그 목소리들은 서로 부딪히고, 변화를 겪고, 서로 더해지며, 처음에는 개인의 생각이었던 의견들이 대화와 협상을 통해 새로운 방향을 갖게 됩니다. 각자의 생각은 이곳에서 비로소 숨을 얻고, 하나의 관점만으로는 만들어낼 수 없었던 무언가로 발전해 나갑니다. 그리고 컨퍼런스가 끝난 뒤 남는 것은 단순히 새로운 지식이나 결의안만이 아닙니다. 몇 시간 동안 같은 공간 속에서 함께 의제를 고민하고, 서로 다른 입장을 두고 협상하며, 때로는 치열하게 의견을 나누다가도 결국 함께 하나의 방향을 찾아갔던 사람들 역시 오랫동안 기억에 남습니다. 오늘 이곳에서 만난 인연이 훗날 친구나 동료로, 혹은 전혀 예상하지 못한 또 다른 자리에서 다시 이어질 수도 있습니다.

​

YMUN 2027이 각자의 생각과 의견에 숨을 불어넣고, 다른 사람의 목소리에 귀 기울이며, 하나의 목소리만으로는 만들어질 수 없는 세계를 함께 헤쳐나가는 경험이 되기를 바랍니다. 그렇게 서로 다른 목소리가 하나둘 더해질 때, 그 합은 단순한 숫자를 넘어 앞으로의 세상에 새로운 숨을 불어넣는 힘이 될 수 있다고 믿습니다.
