YMUN 101 · For first-timers

Q. I know nothing about MUN. Can I still participate?

A. You are more than welcome! YMUN 2024 provides detailed Position Paper Guidelines and PREMUN - a free MUN ROP education session - for first time MUNers.

Q. What do I have to do before I go to the conference?

A. Here are the steps to preparing your conference:

  1. Check your delegation allocation to learn your committee and delegation.

  2. Read your committee's Chair Reports to learn the agendas.

  3. Do some research about your countries' stances about the agendas of your committee.

  4. Submit a position paper, explaining your country's stances regarding BOTH agendas of your committee. Refer to the Position Paper Guidelines.

Q. Are official scores of English abilities necessary for certain committees?

A. Official scores are just a reference for our Secretariat to help you through your journey in YMUN 2024. However, if you do not feel completely comfortable in speaking English, please contact us for any questions regarding committee selection.

Q. Can I use my laptop for research freely during YMUN 2024?

A. Use of electronic devices is not allowed during some procedures in the conference. You may bring printed material of your research to the conference.

Q. Is there a dress code for YMUN 2024?

A. Western formal attire is mandatory for YMUN 2024. No jeans, activewear, slippers allowed! You may be denied entrance for inappropriate attire.

PREMUN

Q. What is PREMUN? Where and when does it happen?

A. PREMUN is a free MUN ROP education session for all delegates participating in YMUN 2024. It will be conducted online via ZOOM, on January 18th - evening before the conference.

We will send a ZOOM link out for PREMUN via email for all registered participants after all registrations are closed.

Q. Is PREMUN mandatory?

A. PREMUN is mandatory for Security Council (SC) delegates. It is optional for all other delegates, and strongly recommended for first time MUNers.

Q. Do I have to sign up for PREMUN separately?

A. No need! You may freely access the ZOOM link provided to you via mail. PREMUN is open to any and all YMUNers.

Location & Accommodation

Q. Do we stay in Sinchon campus for the entire conference?

A. For YMUN 2024, the second day of the offline conference will be conducted in Yonsei University Songdo Campus. The first day and third day including the opening and closing ceremony will be at Sinchon Campus.

Q. How will delegates move between Songdo to Sinchon Campus during the conference?

A. For delegates who signed up for accommodation, a free shuttle bus will be provided.

Q. Where do I have to go for the opening ceremony, and where can my parents pick me up for the closing ceremony?

A. The opening ceremony is at the New Millennium Hall (연세대학교 새천년관), and the closing ceremony will end at the Alumni Hall (연세대학교 동문회관).

Midnight Sessions

Q. What is a midnight session?

A. Midnight sessions are similar to an extended Unmoderated Caucus. Delegates may freely discuss any topic regarding the agenda and draft working papers with their fellow delegates. You may interact with your dais more flexibly to ask questions. It is a great opportunity to participate more actively in building a draft resolution!

Q. Are midnight sessions mandatory?

A. Midnight sessions are highly recommended to develop your working papers with in-depth debate. However, it is up to your choice to participate. For the online committee, the midnight sessions will be conducted on ZOOM.

Q. I did not sign up for accommodation. Can I still join the midnight sessions?

A. Offline participants who did not sign up for accommodation cannot enter the building due to the Songdo dormitory Security Policies. You may contribute online by editing documents online with your bloc.

Q. How can I contact the YMUN 2024 secretariat if I do not have a Korean phone number?

A. Our KakaoTalk Channel (@ydmun), Instagram (@ymun_2024), and e-mail (ydmun20th@gmail.com) is always available for any contact.

Q. What security measures are provided in the Songdo Dorms?

A. The Songdo Campus security team will be in the facilities 24/7, and YMUN 2024 staff will individually supervise delegates when they have to visit external facilities.

Q. Are parents and/or legal guardians allowed in the venue?

A. Due to Yonsei University policies, only the participants may enter the venues.
