Press Council Code of Conduct
-
Press Council members will be assigned to a specific committee. Reporting outside the affairs of this committee (for journalistic purposes) will only be granted after consultation with the Secretary-General.
-
Press Council members will have access to ALL materials produced by the delegates of the committee (position papers, working papers, draft resolutions, resolutions, official notes, etc…). Copies are to be provided upon request by the committee staff.
-
Press Council members may freely vacate their assigned committee rooms (for journalistic purposes) without informing the committee director.
-
Press Council members will have access to their committee rooms regardless of active voting procedures (and consequent door-barring), provided they present clear identification to the committee staff.
-
Press Council members will be allowed to pull delegates (who consent) outside for interviews at any time, except during voting procedures. Interviews must be conducted outside the committee room, except during unmoderated caucus.
-
Press Council members may take photographs of all committee proceedings at all times, provided they are taken in a discreet manner (as determined by the committee director).
-
Press Council members have no right to address the committee directly, and must consult the committee director (and in appropriate cases, the Secretary-General) to request that a message be relayed to the committee delegates as a whole.
-
Press Council members may send notes to the committee director to make requests or inquiries. Committee staff members are to recognize this right.
-
All the rights listed above are subject to suspension at the committee director’s discretion. Press Council members must make an appeal to the Secretary-General should they wish to challenge the committee director’s ruling.
